Key Word Analysis of Wa min Sharri Ḥāsidin idhā Ḥasad
حَاسِدٌ is on the pattern of ism al-fā‘il, derived from حَسَدَ. The expression حَسَدَ عَلَيْهِ حَسْدًا denotes the meaning تَمَنَّى زَوَالَ نِعْمَتِهِ إِلَيْهi.e., he wanted so-and-so’s blessings to be taken away from them, and given to himself instead.
Thus, حَاسِدٌ refers to a person who cannot bear to see the blessings of another, and wishes that they be snatched away from them, and given to him instead.
