In Islam, the Nikah ceremony is an official public announcement of marriage between the bride and groom. According to the Islamic Shariah, the Nikah is an essential prerequisite of marriage in which both parties agree to the contract of marriage.

Upon the relocation of the headquarters of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community to Islamabad, Tilford, His Holiness, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad led the first Nikah ceremonies in the newly-built Masjid Mubarak on 20thApril 2019. The Review of Religions is pleased to present the English translation of this ceremony

His Holiness, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmadabasaid:

All praise belongs to Allah, we praise Him and seek His help and seek His forgiveness and we believe in Him putting all our trust in Him. We seek refuge with Allah against the evil of our own souls and from the negative consequences of our actions. One whom Allah guides, there is none who can lead him astray, and he whom Allah deems astray, there is none who can guide him.

And we bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah. He is One and has no partner. And we also bear witness that Muhammadsais His servant and His messenger.

After this, I seek refuge with Allah from Satan the accursed. In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Ever-Merciful.

“O ye people! fear your Lord, Who created you from a single soul and created therefrom its mate, and from them twain spread many men and women; and fear Allah, in Whose name you appeal to one another, and fear Him particularly respecting ties of relationship. Verily, Allah watches over you.” (4:2)

“O ye who believe! fear Allah, and say the right word. He will bless your works for you and forgive you your sins. And whoso obeys Allah and His Messenger, shall surely attain a mighty success.” (33:71-72)

“O ye who believe! fear Allah; and let every soul look to what it sends forth for the morrow. And fear Allah; verily Allah is Well-Aware of what you do.” (59:19)

“At present, I will announce some Nikahs [Islamic marriage]. Coincidentally, this will be the first Nikah Sermon in this Mosque. However, those who are having their Nikah today should not think that this Mosque has been inaugurated and opened because of the Nikah sermon. The Mosque’s official inauguration will take place with a formal Sermon, when all the work [of the Mosque’s construction] is completed.

Nonetheless, these are the first Nikah that will be announced after the Markaz [Headquarters] has moved here. Always remember that we should not become content and happy with the fact that our Nikahs were the very first Nikahs lead in this Mosque. Rather, always be mindful of the commandments set out by God Almighty about marriage and married life; and they are: that one ought to behave according to righteousness, give due attention to pious works, strive to fulfil each other’s rights, and look toward your future. Give due attention to the moral upbringing and training of your children, who will be the future generation, and try to increase your own spiritual states as well. One should not merely focus on material gain

May Allah Almighty make it so that the bonds being forged today are blessed in all respects; ones in which both take care of each other. May Allah Almighty also grant them pious and righteous progeny in the future.
