O ye who believe! wine and the game of hazard and idols and divining arrows are only an abomination of Satan’s handiwork. So shun each one of them that you may prosper. Satan desires only to create enmity and hatred among you by means of wine and the game of hazard, and to keep you back from the remembrance of Allah and from Prayer. But will you keep back?
Islam, The Holy Qur’an, 5:91-92Every intoxicant is khamr (wine) and every intoxicant is forbidden. If anyone drinks an intoxicant, Allah will not accept prayer from him for forty days, but if he repents, Allah will accept his repentance. If he repeats it a fourth time, it is binding on Allah that He will give him tinat al-khabal [a liquid of hell] to drink.
Islam, Saying of the Holy Prophet (sa), Sunan Abu Dawud, Hadith 3680
Eschew all immoderation and abstain from every type of intoxicant. It is not alcohol alone that ruins a person. Opium, ganja, charas, bhang, hemp, and all other addictions are similarly destructive. They ruin the mind and destroy lives. So, shun all such substances. I cannot understand why one would choose to indulge in these intoxicants when, year on year, they claim the lives of thousands of addicts – not to mention the torment of the hereafter. Islam, Saying of the Promised Messiah (as), Noah’s Ark, P. 113
Ah, you who rise early in the morning in pursuit of strong drink, who linger in the evening to be inflamed by wine, whose feasts consist of lyre and harp, tambourine and flute and wine, but who do not regard the deeds of of the Lord, or see the work of His hands! Judaism, The Tanakh Isaiah, 5:11-12
Do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery; but be filled with the Spirit, as you sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, singing and making melody to the Lord in your hearts.
Christianity, The Bible, Ephesians 5:18-19
To the meeting place the gambler hastens. ‘Shall I win?’ he asks himself, hoping and trembling, But the throws of the dice ruin his hopes, giving the highest scores to his opponent. Dice, believe me, are barbed: they prick and they trip, they hurt and torment and cause grievous harm. To the gambler they are like children’s gifts, sweet as honey, but they turn on the winner in rage and destroy him.
