What motivates an economics student to withstand the rain for hours, not in protection of any individual, but a flag? Kamran Khalid has volunteered to stand guard across the three days of Jalsa in protection of the Liwa-e-Ahmadiyyat — or the flag of Ahmadiyyat.
We asked Kamran why he chooses to sacrifice his weekend trudging through mud, when most young adults his age would be at the cinema or gaming in the warm sanctuary of their homes. ‘The sense of community and brotherhood brings us together. I know that whilst the flag keeps flying, morale across Jalsa will stay high’.
His formerly crisp uniform may now wilt under the weight of the rain, but Kamran’s posture and stance will remain firm throughout Jalsa.
