Nay, but those who are unjust follow their own low desires without any knowledge. Then who can guide him whom Allah has adjudged as lost? There will be no helpers for them.
Islam, The Holy Qur’an, 30:30
The strong is not the one who overcomes the people by his strength, but the strong is the one who controls himself while in anger.
Islam, Saying of the Holy Prophet (sa), Sahih-al-Bukhari, Hadith 6114
The believers should guard their eyes and ears, and private parts from those who are not mahram and should refrain from seeing, hearing, and doing all that is forbidden. Thus would they be able to foster inner purity. That is to say, their hearts will be safeguarded from diverse types of passions, for these are the organs which primarily incite the carnal passions and provoke beastly traits. Observe, therefore, how the Holy Qur’an stresses safeguarding oneself from those who are not mahram and how explicitly it urges believers to restrain their eyes, ears, and private parts to avoid any occasion that might lead to impurity.
Islam, Saying of the Promised Messiah (as), Barahin-e-Ahmadiyya – Part III, p. 112
One who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and one whose temper is controlled [is better] than one who captures a city.
Judaism, the Tanakh, Proverbs 16:32
Who is strong? He who controls his passions.
Judaism, Mishnah, Abot 4.1
For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.
Christianity, the Bible, 2 Timothy 1:7
That man is disciplined and happy who can prevail over the turmoil. That springs from desire and anger, here on earth, before he leaves his body.
Hinduism, Bhagavad Gita 5:23
Though one should conquer a million men on the battlefield, yet he, indeed, is the noblest victor who has conquered himself.
Buddhism, Dhammapada 103
With the conquest of my mind, I have conquered the whole world.
