Qur’anic Verses Revealed to the Promised Messiah? A Response to Allegations

One of the allegations being raised against the Promised Messiah and Imam Mahdi, Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as) is that some verses of the Qur’an which were revealed to the Holy Prophet Muhammad (sa) were also revealed to him.

It should be clear that Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as) did not bring a new law. He did not change Islam, rather came to revive the Muslims and bring them back to the original teachings of Islam. He was a true follower of the Prophet Muhammad (sa). Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as) stated:

‘If I had not been part of the Holy Prophet’s(sa) Ummah, and had not been his follower, then, even if my good deeds had matched all the mountains of the world, I would never have received this honour of converse with God, for all Prophethood has come to an end except the Prophethood of Muhammad (sa)’[i]

As for this allegations, firstly, the ones who hold the belief that Jesus (as) is alive in the heavens and that he will descend to spread the message of Islam (which is the majority of Muslims except Ahmadis), are forced to believe that he would be given knowledge of Islam from Allah through revelation. Now if the Messiah was to descend, it would be a must for Allah to teach him the entire Qur’an through revelation. Otherwise, how would he spread the true meaning of the Qur’an and Ahadith? If Allah would not reveal the true teachings to him, who will he learn from? If he learns from the Deobandis, the Barelwis (sects within Islam) will issue a fatwa (edict) against him. If he learns from the Barelwis, the Deobandis will issue a fatwa against him. If he learns from the Shias, all of these groups will issue a fatwa against him and if he learns from the Ahle Hadith all those who follow would reject him.

Regardless of who he learns from, the opposing sects will declare him to be a disbeliever and say that he is only a Messiah for that group of people alone. These opponents are forced to believe that Allah would reveal the entire Qur’an on Jesus (as) when he returns. What then, is the objection if Allah revealed a few verses upon the true claimant, Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as)?

From the Holy Qur’an, it is evident that the attributes of Allah are eternal. Allah the Almighty states:

As for those who say, ‘Our Lord is Allah,’ and then remain steadfast, the angels descend on them, saying: ‘Fear ye not, nor grieve; and rejoice in the Garden that you were promised. ‘We are your friends in this life and in the Hereafter. Therein you will have all that your souls will desire, and therein you will have all that you will ask for — ‘An entertainment from the Most Forgiving, the Merciful.’[ii]

In these verses, Allah states that the angels reveal these words to the believers, which are Qur’anic verses.

We see the same in the authentic ahadithof the Holy Prophet Muhammad (sa). He (sa) stated :

‘Allah will reveal to the latter-day Messiah.’[iii]

The well-respected scholars of Islam have also said the same.Hazrat Sheikh-e-Akbar, Muhyuddin Ibn Arabi (rh) states:

‘The Qur’an being revealed on the Auliya of  Allah is not cut off. Rather, it is safeguarded with them and to make them taste the enjoyment of nuzul-e-Qura’an (meaning the enjoyment of verses coming down), it is also revealed to them. And this is revealed only to some Auliya’[iv]

Hazrat Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani (rh) one of the most famous saints of Islam has said that if you excel in goodness, then Allah will give you so much respect, that Allah will address you by revealing the following words from the 54th verse of Surah Yusuf:

إِنَّكَ الْيَوْمَ لَدَيْنَا مَكِينٌ أَمِينٌ[v]

‘Thou art this day a man of established position and trust with us’ [vi]

Hazrat Allama Sharani (rh) has stated:

فيرسل وليا ذا نبوة مطلقة ويلهم بشرع محمد صلى الله عليه و سلم

‘The latter-day Messiah will get revelation of the Shariah of Muhammad (sa).[vii]

In conclusion, if the Muslim clerics want to issue a fatwa Islaagainst Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as), they need to reject the greatest saints of Islam, something they would never do.
